Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on October 28, 1967 to Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Her grandfather, her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts, a farmer, was one of the first Roberts to settle in Atlanta. Her father took keen interest from a young age in the theater. While in school in Emory University in 1952 he acted in productions on campus as well as in other parts of Atlanta. He joined the air force in 1953. During his time stationed in Biloxi Mississippi, was cast in an army production that featured Betty Lou Bredemus who was as well in the air force. They got married in 2005, and had their first child, Eric Anthony in 1956. Walter attended Tulane University New Orleans Louisiana after he left the Airforce in the year 1957. Walter started working at Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio in 1960. Walter as well as Betty Lou began producing a children's television program in Georgia, Decatur called Bum Bum and His Buddies. They financed the production their own. In 1964, Walter and Betty Lou established the Actors and Writers Workshop. It ran for 6 years. During this time they also had two kids Lelisa (called Lisa) Billingsley in the year 1965 as well as Julia (called Julie) in 1967.
